Winter Sports Highlights

The winter sports season drew to a close last week. Here are some of the highlights:

Indoor Track:

VT State relays records broken at New Englands:

4x800 Quinnae Outerbridge '16, Hannah Ryan '17, Allie Peck '16, Bettina Hammer '16; 12th at New Englands 53.53 seconds

4x200 Lia Rotti '19, Jen Rotti '19, Grace Cooke, Katherine Cowan '18; 15th at New Englands 1:48.13

4x400 Hannah Ryan, Quinnae Outerbridge, Lauren Green, Bettina Hammer; 16th at New Englands 4:07.51

Boys 4x800 Isaac Gibsonn '16, Tre Wofford '17, Jayden Ming '18, Nathaniel Atkins '19 22nd in 8:38.34

The girl's 4x800 team of Quinnae Outerbridge, Hannah Ryan, Annie Cunningham '18 and Bettina Hammer broke the Vermont State Record (held by Bettina, Quinn Bornstein, Molly Mulcahy and Robin Vincent 2014).

Katherine Cowan ran to 5th place in the 400 in 59.87, the 3rd fastest 400 in school history (outdoors), Quinnae Outerbridge ran 2:22.79 for 15th out of 42 runners in the 800. The team of Quinnae, Katherine, Lauren Green and Bettina Hammer placed 2nd in the 4x400 relay. Ian Clough placed 13th in the 60 meter and 14th in the 200 out of over 40 competitors.

At the state meet (which the girls won) Katherine Cowan won the 55 Hurdles, High Jump and placed 2nd in the 300m. Lia Rotti, Jen Rotti, Grace Cooke and Katherine won the 4x200. Hannah, Allie Peck, Lauren Green and Bettina won the 4x400. Allie won the 1000 meters with Bettina 2nd. Ian Clough '17 won the 55m, placed 2nd in the 300m and 5th in the 55 hurdles to lead the boys. Jayden Ming placed 2nd in the 3200, Jayden, Ralph Steyn '18, Nate Atkins and Isaac Gibson won the 4x800 relay. Overall 14 athletes and 5 relay teams qualified for the New England Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston on the 28th.


Wrestling team finished 5th in the state. The following wrestlers earned a bid to the New England Championships held this weekend in Providence, Rhode Island:

Isaac Hahr '18 in the 113 lb division

Kyle Goodell '16 in the 132 lb division

Johnny Perreault '16 in the 145 lb division

Hunter Ladd '18 in the 195 lb division

Tyler Howard '16 in the 285 lb division

Girls Basketball:

Girls Basketball hosted a quarterfinal match-up in the playoffs narrowly missing a trip to Patrick Gymnasium.


The ski team travelled to Smuggler's Notch Ski Area for the second half of the NVAC District races - a giant slalom. After Monday's slalom race, both teams were in position to qualify for the state championship race, but their positions were tenuous, as only 10/13 teams could qualify.

The boys were paced by Rian Fried's '18 10th place finish. Ben Bangs '18 also finished in the top 20 (19th). Justice Wilson '16 placed 28th and Camdyn Meigs '19 finished in 38th. By virtue of a team effort on a daunting course, the boys team finished in 5th place overall (a mere 2 points behind the 4th place team) and will return to the state championships again this year.

The girls were lead by Elsa Eckhardt's '18 12th place finish. Madeleine Desrochers '17 finished in 20th, Jaime Wood '17 in 24th place, and Elsa Nygard '17 rounded out the team scoring with her 42nd place. By virtue of their solid results the girls moved up to 7th place overall moving on to the state championships.

First Day of States (Giant Slalom): The boys were led by Rian Fried's 25th place finish and the girls were led by Jaime Wood's 24th place finish. Second Day of States (Slalom): Boys: Rian Fried 29th, Ben Bangs 42nd. Girls: Madeleine Desrochers 35th and Jaime Wood 41st.


In states, Girls: Alexandra Lawson placed 5th, Brenna Kerin 44th, Rebecca Green 49th, and Annie Danielson 68th. Boys: Asher Solnit 21st, Peter Mulcahy 32nd, Gage Hale 64th, Ronan Johnston-McWilliams 67th, Jack Fannon 67th, Jonathan Green 69th, and Peter Eckhardt 71st.
