Headmaster's Welcome

"Our Academy" -- a weekly message from the Headmaster

Mr. Tom Lovett, Headmaster

Thank you for visiting our Website.  Whether you are a prospective student, a member of our alumni, a current parent or student, or one of our many benefactors and friends, I am sure you will find something of interest here.

The Academy is a place of life-changing opportunities.  Our students build relationships with some of the very best educators in the world—our faculty and staff—and through those relationships build lives of good character, inquiry, and community.  Their lives are enriched as well through their interactions with their schoolmates—young men and women from around the world with diverse interests, abilities, and backgrounds.  The lessons learned and the closeness experienced in these relationships are often some of the most transformative experiences in their lives.

For over 170 years, the Academy has fostered a sense of community that has allowed all students--rich and poor, international and American, athletes and artists, scientists and scholars, tradesmen and technicians—to thrive regardless of their background and regardless of their interests.  Our alumni continue to work to leave the world better than they found it and to provide ever-richer opportunities for those who follow them.  Located in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, we can offer this exciting array of opportunities in one of the most beautiful and peaceful places in the world.  Our students are free to focus on their learning without distraction, and our excellent facilities provide them the resources to do so.  Likewise, being an integral part of one of New England’s best small towns and working (through programs like The Colwell Center for Global Understanding) to integrate boarding and day students, we offer each student a chance to learn about democratic as well as global citizenship.

Once again, thank you for your interest in St. Johnsbury Academy.  I sincerely hope you find what you are looking for here and, even more, that you can come and visit us soon.
