The Mission of the Fine Arts

http://www.stjacademy.org/uploaded/photos/Arts/Arts_-_Girl_with_Painting.jpgThe mission of the Fine Arts at St. Johnsbury Academy is to give all students the opportunity to:

  •  Acquire the technical skills necessary to be creative and skillful producers of art in their chosen fields in the performing or visual arts;
  • Become appreciative, intelligent, and critical spectators of each of the performing and visual arts;
  • Come to a familiarity with exemplary works of art from various cultures and historical periods, and achieve a basic understanding of art history and the role of art in history and
  • Develop a passion for their chosen art form that encourages them to pursue it after they graduate from the Academy.

The Academy Fine Arts Department also reaches out to the community by partnering with local cultural institutions to expand the reach of the fine arts in the Northeast Kingdom.  The Academy has a partnership with Catamount Arts to bring performances to the Stuart Black Box Theatre.  For additional information on these performances, go to Catamount Arts.

On a regular basis, the Academy works with St. Johnsbury Athenaeum to exhibit student and faculty artwork in their second floor Art Gallery.  For information regarding these exhibitions, go to St. Johnsbury Athenaeum.
