ST. JOHNSBURY ACADEMY
GOOD NEIGHBOR PROGRAM
St. Johnsbury Academy has introduced a Good Neighbor scholars program designed to make boarding at the school more attractive and affordable for families in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Quebec.
The Good Neighbor program combines the best of five and seven day boarding, giving studentsthe opportunity to enjoy time with their families while benefitting from the structure, support, and participation that resident life makes possible. The Good Neighbor annual tuition of $29,500 is significantly less than the 2014-2015 resident student tuition of $49,300.
“We’re offering this special program so students can enjoy all the benefits of a St. Johnsbury Academy education, including the boarding experience, while still having quality time with their families. Any family with a primary residence, or vacation home, in Vermont, New Hampshire, or Quebec, is eligible,” said Jack Cummings, Associate Headmaster for Advancement and Admission at the Academy. “Our Good Neighbor tuition is comparable to the day school tuition charged by other independent day and boarding schools in Northern New England. Families living in voucher towns can further reduce the cost by the amount of the sending town contribution.”

“We believe this option will be attractive to families who might otherwise not consider a boarding-school education for their children,” Cummings said, adding that “research on boarding schools indicates that families prefer to keep their children within a two-hour radius of home, enabling weekend visits, attendance at sporting and other events, and the chance to maintain contact with the child away at school. The Good Neighbor program accomplishes all of these things at a very competitive tuition.”
With more than 265 board students, St. Johnsbury Academy is one of the largest boarding schools in Northern New England.
The independent day and boarding school enrolls students from 50 communities in Northern Vermont and New Hampshire, nearly half of the 50 states, and 26 countries.

In addition to small classes and personal attention, the academic program provides access to 220 courses, including 20 advanced placement classes, STeM and technical offerings, five languages, and extensive opportunities in the visual and performing arts.
Extracurricular programs feature more than 50 organized clubs and activities, international travel opportunities, and Division I athletics consisting of 48 teams participating in more than 20 different sports. The school is also recognized for its exceptional Learning Support programs.
