2012 Vermont State Track Meet

The 2012 Vermont Recreation and Parks Association/ St. Johnsbury Academy Youth Track Meet an overwhelming success. The event went off beautifully thanks to all the hard work of faculty, staff, students, and alumni. It truly is an Academy wide event that helped spread the message of our school's athletic code (Committed, Competitive, and Classy) statewide.

So many people were involved in the program, including our maintenance and grounds crew, coaching staff, running and field event volunteers, field house staff, ribbon makers, concession stand help, IT support, parking greeters, English as a Second Language student greeters, walkie-talkie runners and much, much more. Special thanks to Jamie Ryan who coordinated the event and announced and to Chip Langmaid for continuing to instill the value of community service in his young athletes, many of whom continue to come back year after year to volunteer for this program in their summers off and inspire future Hilltoppers.

The totals: 485 athletes from throughout the state attended the meet, with St. J contributing 85. Our St. Johnsbury girls won first place over Hartland, 182 to 126, and our boys won over Mt. Mansfield, 224 to 131. In combined boys and girls scoring, we won over Burlington, 406 to 202.—Joe Fox, Director, St. Johnsbury Academy Community Recreation
