http://www.stjacademy.org/uploaded/photos/Web_page_photos/kingdom_logo_new.jpgThe beautiful Northeast Kingdom is known around the world for its spectacular scenery, diverse wildlife and natural resources.  These natural attributes provide a lifestyle that is more simplified with a focus on community.

The town of St. Johnsbury or "St. J" is the hub of the Northeast Kingdom just 2 1/2 hours from Montreal and 3 hours from Boston.   St. Johnsbury's Main Street is lined with historic 19th century homes, buildings and cultural institutions including the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum and the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium.

The staff of the National Geographic Center for Sustainable Destinations, in Washington, D.C. conducted a survey of global tourism destinations in 2003, appointing a panel of 500 travel and tourism professionals, including specialists in sustainable tourism, to rate 115 popular tourist destinations around the world according to how well residents had been able to protect their cultural and natural attractions.  Vermont received the highest rating in the United States.

National Geographic Adventure Magazine listed St. Johnsbury Vermont as the best small town for adventure in America!

Vermont's Northeast Kingdom worked with  National Geographic  to develop a geotourism program for the region.  This program allows Vermont's Northeast Kingdom to join a select group of countries and regions working with National Geographic's Center for Sustainable Destinations to promote tourism that enhances and sustains the environment, culture, and heritage of tourism destinations.
