St. Johnsbury Academy calls off school only in very unusual conditions. Occasionally, on mornings when the weather is bad, the Academy may open late. Closings and late openings will be broadcast on or before 7:00 a.m. on radio stations WSTJ (1340AM) St. Johnsbury, WDEV (550AM/ 96.1FM) Waterbury, WGMT (97.7FM) Lyndonville, WMOO (92.1FM) Derby, WWLR (Lyndon State College), on television Channel 3, WCAX, and on the Academy website's home page, www.stjacademy.org.
The information is also available in a voice mailbox at 7:00 a.m. by dialing 748-7600, extension 2500. Please note that this mailbox is for information only as you will not be able to leave a message. Be advised that the mailbox is inoperable in the event of a power outage.
On days when many area schools have closed and driving may be unusually hazardous in rural areas, students and their parents are left with the decision of whether or not to attend, or whether or not to arrive late. On such days, absences excused by parents will be considered excused absences by the school. As a rule of thumb, if it is unsafe to attempt to get to school from your home, you should wait until road conditions improve.
