Special Services

The Special Services Department at St. Johnsbury Academy was developed to assist those students who not only require help with organization and study skills, but whose diagnosed learning disability creates the need for specialized assistance, remediation, and classroom accommodations. Increasing a student's academic, social/emotional, and self-advocacy skills are primary goals within these programs.
The Special Services Department is staffed with professional special educators, learning specialists, and well-trained paraprofessionals. Services are provided through Study Skills, Guided Studies, and Individualized Services programs.
Study Skills
Study Skills is a one credit course available to both Freshmen and Upperclassmen. This course teaches learning strategies, time management, goal setting and provides time for course work and assistance from staff.
Guided Studies
The Guided Studies program provides support services to students requiring additional attention and support. In addition to learning strategies and time management skills, this program provides individual support including remediation, and the development and monitoring of classroom accommodations. Students enroll in the Guided Studies program for one block per day.
Individualized Services
The Individualized Service program is designed for students who require intensive daily support, and focuses on small group and/or individual instruction addressing basis skills in all subject-area content, with real-life applications.
Specific information regarding placement or services can be obtained through the Admissions Office or from the Special Services Administrator.
