Welcome to Grace Stuart Orcutt Library

in the Mayo Center at St. Johnsbury Academy

When most visitors step into the Library for the first time, they comment on the clean lines and the bright, open space—the well-lit and even cheery atmosphere. Many say, "It's more like a college library." They're correct in that the Academy's Library is a hive of activity throughout the day, and stays open into the night for use by all students, like a university library. Often, special events are planned—readings, art showings, demonstrations—in the Fireside area. Yes, it's a multi-use facility; but it remains a place of learning, study, and research, first and foremost. Private study rooms help students focus on their work; and dozens of computer stations allow access to the Internet for work-in-progress research. The Library staff, and in the evening faculty, are always available for assistance. We take great pride in our world-class Library—a place of inquiry where academic excellence takes shape.

The Summer Youth Corp (Operation Creation) is set to kick off its second year on July 14th. Thirty rising ninth graders from St. Johnsbury were selected to take part in the three-week program based on an application and interview.
This year's recipient of St. Johnsbury Academy's Northeast Kingdom Service Award was Dale Wells '64T of St. Johnsbury. The Northeast Kingdom Service Award is given annually to an SJA alum who has shown unselfish dedication and service to the continued improvement of the Northeast Kingdom.
St. Johnsbury Academy recently named the recipients of the annual Dwayne B. Sherrer Alumni Distinguished Service Award. This year, the school honored Bill Hanson and Pamela Burns Kocher, both from the class of 1964. They received their awards during their 50th reunion celebration.
St. Johnsbury Academy recently purchased a Ganesh GBM-2616 Heavy-Duty CNC Bed Type Milling Machine from Lyndon State College for its new Maker Space that will be housed in Streeter Hall. The Space build-out is being funded by a $100,000 gift from two families in China and will be available for student use beginning in the fall of 2014.
Now that our Commencement exercises are over and the last of our student-athletes have departed from campus, I have had a chance to reflect on what was once again a beautiful and successful Commencement weekend. The prom-goers enjoyed beautiful weather; Ann and I entertained a record number of seniors, advisors, and parents at our Headmaster's Tea; Class Day was filled with dozens of awards given to dozens of different graduates; and Baccalaureate had the most student speakers ever—all talking about their experiences of love and reflecting on them from various spiritual traditions.
