Colwell Center for Global Understanding
The Colwell Center for Global Understanding supports programs and activities that foster global education. Housed in the Mayo Center along with the Grace Stuart Orcutt Library, the Colwell Center is the generous gift of the Stephen B. Colwell family who have long supported the Academy and its goals of global learning.
A Resource to Students…
Founded in 2003, the Colwell Center promotes global understanding by encouraging the members of the Academy community with strong international connections to share their views of the world with others. Faculty and students have both shared their experiences abroad through slide shows and informal talks.
In addition to collaborating with the Academy's Spanish, Japanese, German, Mandarin, and French Clubs, the Colwell Center supports other Academy clubs such as the International Club, the Human Rights Alliance, the Environmental Club, and the Intaglio Society.
A Resource to the Community…
The Colwell Center also strives to advance global understanding in the St. Johnsbury community. The Culture and Language After School Program has supported a Thai dance program and a Japanese language program for elementary and middle-school aged children.
A Resource to Teachers…
The Colwell Center works to provide academic support to teachers. The International Resource Center provides information about teacher exchange, international travel, and global classroom activities to teachers at St. Johnsbury Academy and surrounding schools.
