The Alma Mater

The Freshman Class has just begun to learn The Alma Mater, our school song, a song that has been called “the Academy Love Song.” Soon they will sing it in Fuller Hall for the rest of the student body; it has been sung atop the Domes of Yosemite and in the streets of Manchester, NH (where our cross country team was joined in their singing a few years ago by a 70-year-old alumnus who was waiting at a bus stop); it has been sung by teams on busses and at halftime and by fans in stands at the end of games. It has been sung by new students and student leaders during Orientation and alumni and student servers at Alumni Banquet. In fact, the more I can get people to sing it, the better.

Forestry students worked with Vermont Fish and Wildlife to sample Brook Trout populations in the Sleepers River. Sampling involved electrofishing to measure and examine fish in a historic sampling location on the river. Information was used to calculate local population density and species composition.

Welding students worked on roses, which will be donated to raise money for the Waterford School library.

Alicia Woods' Spanish class searched the archives for information on the school. They will later use this information in presentations (in Spanish).

Students in Mr. Roberts’ Introduction to Electricity class reviewed plans for renovations to Brantview with Keith Robinson of Black River Design. Students in the class will gain hands-on experience by working on the dorm renovation project when it begins next year.

Rosie Prevost talked to her class about the current photography exhibit in the Charles Hosmer Morse Center for the Arts.

Jerry Prevost gave away two "random act of kindness" apple pies (with cheddar) in Chapel.
