When Alison Barkley invited my wife and me to dinner with Mohamad Hafez and his wife Dania, I had no idea how my life would change. I knew Alison was very active in supporting those who were working with refugees, and I knew Mohamad was an artist and architect with an interesting background (he was born in Syria, grew up in Saudi Arabia, was educated in Iowa, and currently lives in Connecticut), but I was mostly expecting a pleasant evening of conversation about art and life in the Northeast Kingdom. By the time dinner was over, however, I was not only inspired by Mohamad's vision and energy, but also by his and Dania's commitment to selflessly serving the refugees in New Haven, CT. Over the past six weeks, this relationship has yielded much fruit.
