Award-winning St. Johnsbury Academy Theatre will perform The Addams Family – A New Musical Comedy at Fuller Hall on November 9 and 10 at 7:00 p.m. and November 11 at 2:00 p.m.
The Addams Family was created by the award-winning team of writers, Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, and composer-lyricist Andrew Lippa. The musical is based on the characters created by Charles Addams.
In the kooky, upside-down world of the Addams Family, to be sad is to be happy, to feel pain is to feel joy, and death and suffering are the stuff of their dreams. Nonetheless, this quirky family still has to deal with many of the same challenges faced by any other family: the Addams kids are growing up. The Addams' have lived by their unique values for hundreds of years and Gomez (Michael Lamontagne '18) and Morticia (Emily Steen '19), the patriarch and matriarch of the clan, would be only too happy to continue living that way. Their dark, macabre, beloved daughter Wednesday (Elizabeth Gilmartin '19), however, is now an eighteen year-old young woman who is ready for a life of her own. She has fallen in love with Lucas Beineke (Samuel Bulpin '19), a sweet, smart boy from a normal, respectable Ohio family — the most un-Addams sounding person one could be! And to make matters worse, she has invited the Beinekes (Fiona Sweeney '19 and Michael Hazard '21) to their home for dinner. In one fateful, hilarious night, secrets are disclosed, relationships are tested, and the Addams family must face up to the one horrible thing they've managed to avoid for generations: change.
As the story unfolds in the frightfully delightful world of the family, the familiar characters of Charles Addams come to spectacular life! The other members of the family include Grandma (Lilly Sullivan '18), Uncle Fester (Marc Lamontagne '20), Pugsley (Margaret Roach '19), and Lurch (Gavin Ghafoori '21).
A band of spirited ancestors from past generations also haunt the scenes throughout the story as they sing and dance their way through the show. The ancestors include Sierra Norko '19 as the Flapper, Emma Sestito '20 as the Pirate, Shaelyn Craft '20 as the Puritan, James Rust '19 as the Conquistador, Cierra Manassa-Curin '21 as the Cavewoman, Kathleen Mayhew '21 as the Bride, Jordan Barbour '20 as the Saloon Girl, Margeaux Rotenberg '19 as the Sailor, Miranda DeGreenia '21 as the Bobby Socker, Ruini Hong '19 as the Egyptian, Sarah Bussiere '19 as the Chef, Sadie Chapman '20 as the Flight Attendant, Emerson Jolliffe '21 as the Gambler, and Lily Barth '21 as the Courtesan. Shaelyn Craft also portrays Itt and Miranda Degreenia portrays Thing.
